In the last several years there have been many new phone books popping up to challenge the SBC dominated market.

Which phone book do you grab when you need to look up a number? SBC? An imitation?

Why do you choose what you choose?

*Please, i dont wanna hear if you use 1411 or the internet....we are talking phone books here.

is this Q spawned in relation to you and your shop?
as in, you wanting to know which books reach
the most people and whom does everyone prefer?

naturally not everyone here will apply....

but you know, conway (at least my neighborhood)
    doesn't get the SWB phonebook...

i have always gotten the conway local and the
    mcleod's book

they both suck major cow balls

We only have one real telephone book, just a different one for every..well.. sort of county, we don't have counties, but it's probably about county-wide.

And of course the internet : www.detelefoongids.nl

But i doubt that's of any help in your case.

does it really matter? they all have the same basic information, it's not like one book has a number, and the other book has a differnet number for the same place.

It matters greatly to the people that run ads in the phone books.

If you will crack open the latest SBC phone book and take a look at the ad for the shop in there....you will see it is fairly small. That ad will cost close to 5 thousand bucks.

However an ad in the McLeod phone book of the same size is a fraction of the cost.

Why do you think SBC advertists its book so much? To increase its percieved value to the people that will be advertising in it. If businesses see that just as many people are using the Mcleod book, then SBC cant charge their (truly) outrageous prices.

and no....the books wont have a differing number for the same place.....

however some of the smaller books simply wont have a business listed at all. compare the two sometime...the SBC book has far more business listings than any of the others.

Now....you may not find this to be the case in some of the older versions of the smaller books because they were just getting started and simply copied everything right out of the SBC book.

They gave everyone free advertising for a year or two in their book and then started going around and getting merchants to pay. Therefore, the book is much smaller now than in years past.
